The Summers Life

Outside Exploration with Jan & Jul

Vancouver aka ‘Rain-couver’ is loved by those of us who embrace its rugged (often soggy) beauty and has inspired technical outdoor children’s wear brand Jan & Jul to create clothing that make it easy to be outside rain or shine.

Chance’s are, you’ve seen Jan & Jul whether it be on social media, online shopping or on kiddos at your local park.

Jan & Jul is a company founded by Florence Luo, a mechatronics research engineer with two engineering patents under her name and molecular level understanding of how textiles and fabrics work.
Growing up in rural China in the cotton farming region, Florence learned the ins and outs of processing cotton, sewing and textiles. After winning a University scholarship in the US, her passion for creating high-quality technical outdoor clothing for children became more pronounced after the arrival of her first daughter. Her first design concepts of the Grow-With-Me® hat came to life, in 1996 while working in sunny California.

Twinkbelle Designs Inc started in 2008 when Florence and her family moved to Vancouver. The desire to spend more time with her girls became a priority and so Florence moved to teaching part time at The University of British Columbia. Between parenting, teaching and running operations from her kitchen table Florence and her husband had some doubts that the company would blossom into the business it is today. Florence grew up playing in dirt and in her own words, “really believes in the power and magic of outside playing time.” This is the driving force behind Jan & Jul that came to life in 2015. The brand ethos is to create products that will enable families to enjoy the outdoors in any weather and make it fun and cozy too!

With The Summers Life as brand ambassadors we took our gear and set off for a 3 month European adventure this past December thru March. We packed Jan & Jul gear and outfitted our kids on every adventure from the Christmas markets in Germany, to the piers along the coast of Ireland and the ski slopes in Scotland. We were caught in gale force winds, sun, rain and snow with little to no complaints from the kids. Choose from variety of clothing and shoes available in designs that range from cute to cool which can be found on their website or on

We are also excited for their new product launch – the baby carrier/stroller cover. The first prototype came with us on our trip too. (Post later to come).

We love products offered here but more so the people behind it, and the philosophy of the company. Empowering women through fair wages and a flexible work schedule, giving back to others to educate future generations and those in need.
